Paramount+’s upcoming Fairly OddParents reboot will combine live-action and animation, with real-world characters co-existing with CGI ones.
The next Fairly Odd Parents the reboot will be a hybrid of live-action and animated storytelling. The animated series first aired on Nickelodeon from 2001 to 2006. It then resumed production from 2008 until creator Butch Hartman left the network in 2018. The show follows the adventures of Timmy Turner, 10 years old, and his bubbly and weird godfathers, Cosmo. and Wanda, who are able to grant all of Timmy’s wishes. Other residents of Dimmsdale include Vicky, Timmy’s tyrannical babysitter, his oblivious and well-meaning parents, and the hunchback Mr. Crocker.
Slated for release in March 2022, the restarted Fairly Odd Parents features Timmy’s cousin, Vivian Turner, as the new main character. When 13-year-old Vivian moves with her father to Dimmsdale, Timmy enlists Cosmo and Wanda to help him adjust. However, Viv has to share her godparents with her new half-brother, Roy. Audrey Grace Marshall is set to star as Vivian, with Tyler Wladis as Roy. Rounding out the ensemble are Laura Bell Bundy, Ryan-James Hatanaka and Imogen Cohen. Additionally, Daran Norris and Susanne Blakeslee will return to voice Cosmo and Wanda.
Now, my godparents are magic actress Lesli Margherita confirmed The art of kindness podcast that the upcoming reboot will combine animation and live action. Margherita will play a new character named Judy Stoneface. “There are aspects of animation that also occur in live action“explains the actress. “It’s a hybrid.” Billed as a live-action reboot, it looks like the titular OddParents will remain animated. It remains to be seen if other characters will also be animated.
The reboot is not the first time my godparents are magic dabbled in live-action. The series spawned three live-action films—A rather strange film: Grow up, Timmy Turner! (2011), A Quite Weird Christmas (2012), and A rather strange summer—all three stars Drake Bell as an adult Timmy. All three films combined real-life actors with GCI fairies. The series seems to be in the same vein as the movies, at least stylistically.
the Fairly Odd Parents reboot is one of many Nickelodeon series rebooted by Paramount+. The streaming platform is also mounting a revival of Dora the Explorer, and it has already debuted with an update iCarly and a new one CGI version of Rugrats. Other streaming services have had success with this tactic, including Netflix More complete house and peacock saved by the bell. As other streamers continue to capitalize on the nostalgia, the Fairly Odd Parents the creators can only hope its hybrid style will separate the series from the pack.
