Hagerty was a recurring character actor on the hit NBC sitcom “Friends,” where he played Mr. Treeger, the superintendent of the apartment complex where the majority of the main group lived.
He starred on “The George Carlin Show” on Fox and “Lucky Louie” on HBO. Known for his heavy Chicago accent and unusual mustache, Hagerty began his career with famed Chicago improv theater group, Second City.
Early 1980s film roles included “Doctor Detroit”, “The Imposter”, “Turk 182”, and “Brewster’s Millions”. In 1986, he made his television debut in an episode of “Cheers”.
The Wayans Bros., The Drew Carey Show, Grace Under Fire, Ally McBeal, Curb Your Enthusiasm, Desperate Housewives, Glee, Happy Endings, The Mindy Project and Brooklyn Nine-Nine.
His TV credits include “Crime Story”, “Angel”, “ER” and “Deadwood”. In addition to “Friends,” he had recurring roles on “The Building,” “Star Trek: The Next Generation,” and “The Home Court.”
In 1994, Hagerty got his first regular TV appearance on the short-lived “George Carlin Show.” In both seasons of the show, Hagerty played Frank MacNamara, George O’Grady’s bar mate.
In 2006, he starred in HBO’s “Lucky Louie,” playing Mike, the protagonist’s (Louis CK) best friend and boss. In the 2013 TNT crime thriller “Mob City”, he played “Fat Jack” Bray, a member of an LAPD team dedicated to bringing down the city’s mob.
Known for his television performances, Hagerty had many film parts, mostly comedies. In the 1987 comedy “Overboard,” starring Goldie Hawn and Edward Herrmann, he played Kurt Russell’s best pal.
“Dick Tracy,” “Space Truckers,” “Speed 2: Cruise Control,” and “Inspector Gadget” were among his most prominent roles in 1990s Ax Murderer So I Married an Ax Murderer and Austin Powers : the spy who fucked me.
“Somebody Somewhere” was one of Hagerty’s last attempts. He played Ed Miller, a Kansas farmer and Sam’s (played by Everett) father.
