The original “Clerks” movie is iconic because of the main cast, sharp writing, and eccentric customers who frequent the Quick Stop. “Clerks III” brings back nearly every character from the first outing, and it’s a delight for longtime fans. Whether it’s the cat poop guy, the egg inspector, the Chewlies Gum rep, the angry video store customer, the guy who gets his arm stuck in a can of Pringles, from a surprise “Mallrats” cameo to Harley Quinn Smith taking over as “milkmaid” (a customer who pulls out every gallon of milk looking for the latest expiration date), they all stop to annoy Dante and Randal one last time.
The creation of the “Cons” section in “Clerks III” balances the nostalgia with some new jokes peppered in and some fun behind-the-scenes bits. One example is a hilarious scene where Jay is nervous about dancing in front of “all these people”, referring to a crew of four. He has them break a record and get inside so he can dance without anyone watching. Kevin Smith and Jason Mewes told this as 100% true, making the scene even more authentic and funny.
Both films were made on a shoestring budget, with the original cast consisting almost entirely of non-actors. Incredibly, Kevin Smith was able to bring all of these New Jersey natives back and reprise their roles. All fans of the original should smile ear to ear during this trip down memory lane.
